Hi!! Iโm so glad youโve found my blog! โญ๏ธ๐ท๐คธ๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐
Iโm Sophie, and on August 28th I launch on a 9-month missions trip. The first month will be spent in Georgia at training camp, where I will meet my squad of 40(ish) others. We will spend time preparing our hearts, minds, and bodies for everything to come, while also deepening our relationship with each other and the LORD! From there, we will head to Jamaica (a new addition!), Italy, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia to do whatever ministry is needed.
Now of course, my decision to say yes to this calling was not an easy one. As I began thinking about what I wanted to do after high school, missions was laid on my heart over and over again. This calling for more truly began in high school as I discovered the beauty of missions. The Lord continuously revealed more of His heart to me through trips, camps, people, and intimacy with Him (if I shared all of these incredible God moments, you'd be here all day!) There were countless times throughout high school that I now know were glimpses of the plans God had in mind for me, and looking back, it makes so much sense that I would end up here. Last Fall, I spent a lot of time wrestling with God as I was unsure what my next steps were. I felt unqualified and unprepared to do the work I knew He was calling me to, so it was tempting to choose a "safer" option. But over and over -- through scripture, trusted believers speaking over me, and so many mundane moments, I was reminded of what we as believers are ultimately called to. Obedience. The Lord has never asked for perfection or for us to have it all figured out, but rather, to simply say "yes." In reality, I will never ever be prepared enough. But I have full faith that the Lord doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. I know he will provide in abundance and honor my "yes." It is incredible because as soon as I surrendered my agenda and fears and just obeyed, He met me with a peace beyond understanding. Now I am more confident than ever that the race is where He wants me in this season.
As I shared my testimony during the interview process, an advisor reminded me of the story of Moses. God revealed Himself to Moses and commissioned him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, and Moses was so close to ignoring God's voice. He doubted God over and over again, asking "who am I to go to Pharoah?" Moses felt unqualified, but God reassured him and sent him signs. In the end, Moses was obedient, and sure enough- God's presence empowered him and allowed him to do what he was called to. Through his obedience, the Lord used him to fulfill such an amazing mission. God's calling can seem so incredibly scary, but it is NEVER a waste to be obedient because He ALWAYS makes a way! How beautiful!!
Now that you know just a bit of my heart for the race, I want to ask you to partner with me in prayer! My prayer going into this trip is that the Lord would completely strip me of myself - that I would be humbled to the extent that I have nothing left but Him. I want to rely fully on Him, and I know that can only happen when I come to the end of myself. Also, the enemy loves to destroy beautiful things, and as we get closer to launch, nerves, anxiety, and doubt can start to creep in. I ask that you join me in praying over my entire squad; that the enemy would have no hold on us, and that we would step out in confidence with our eyes fixed on Jesus alone. AND that our squad would be completely united under His name so there is nothing hindering us. Pray for the hearts of those we will minister to in the coming months, and for the organizations and hosts we will partner with. Lastly, most people in my squad (including me) are still fundraising! Fundraising can be so difficult and intimidating, especially as we juggle the costs of quality gear and prep, so please be praying for an abundance of support for my squad. So hard to believe we launch in just 41 days!
My hope for this blog is that it would be a place where I get to share the Lord's works - what He is doing in my heart, in my squad, and in the nations. Like a journal that I get to share with YOU from wherever I am!!! Most importantly, this will be a place in which He gets ALL the glory and praise! I am SO excited for the journey ahead, so I invite you to stick around for all that is to come!
So much love,
Soph
